Explores the numerous perspectives from which works of art can be experienced and understood.
This illustrated catalogue from the Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art documents a collaborative interdisciplinary exhibition involving faculty members from across the State University of New York at New Paltz campus, museum staff members, and objects from the permanent collection. Participants were asked to respond to one of the ten works on display, select one to study, and finally to create interpretive label copy developed from the unique perspective of their academic disciplines and personal interests. These responses take a variety of forms, from more academically based catalogue entries to poems, essays, and personal reflections. Taken together, they demonstrate the numerous perspectives from which a work of art can be experienced and understood.
