Doghiker: Author Talk and Book Signing with Alan Via

June 30, 2022 @ 6:30pm - 7:45pm

You’re invited to the Guilderland Public Library's first, in-person author talk and book signing! Alan Via’s book, Doghiker – Great Hikes with Dogs from the Adirondacks through the Catskills, has been described as more than a guidebook showing great places to hike; it’s a dog owner’s operating manual and tool kit. After speaking about key chapters in the book, Alan will take us on a slideshow tour of gorgeous hiking scenery with dogs.

Doghiker offers guidance on selecting a canine companion, training, safety, canine first aid and keeping your dog fit and healthy. The book includes 77 hikes with custom color maps, color photos, and charts showing mileage, elevation gain, parking area description, viewpoints, water sources and canine safety. Many readers and reviewers have commented that Doghiker is a great hiking guidebook -- even if you don’t have a dog!

Presenter and author Alan Via, a Delmar native, has been owned by eight dogs in his life. He has served for 14 years as the Albany Chapter, ADK Outings Chair and has been a hike leader for over 40 years. Alan is a 46er; a Winter 46er; a Catskill 3500; 3500 winter; and NE111 completer. He has also organized and led trips to Oregon, Washington, Colorado, Sierras.

Copies of the book, signed and personalized by the author, will be available for purchase.
